Winona Laura Horowitz professionally known by the name Winona Ryder is a native of Winona Minnesota. Her parents named their daughter on her home town. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father comes from the Jewish family Ryder thinks she's Jewish. The actress is the youngest sister of Uria as well as half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder was born in the United States and moved along with her family in Mendocino County California at the age of seven. The family lived in a place without electricity. Ryder became an avid book reader because there was no TV. In 1983, when she was 12 Ryder took up a place at the American Conservatory Theatre to take acting classes.
